Downtown Financial Incentive Programs Drop-In Sessions

Join the Town’s Economic Development and Heritage Planning staff for upcoming drop-in sessions to learn about financial incentive programs available to downtown businesses and property owners through the Community Improvement Plan (CIP) and conservation assistance through the Heritage Property Grant and Heritage Property Tax Refund Program. 

At the drop-in sessions, you can expect to:  

  • learn about program(s) eligibility  
  • receive information about the application processes  
  • explore successfully completed projects
  • connect with Town staff one-on-one to discuss a potential project

Downtown Georgetown (part of Downtown Georgetown BIA Member Mingle) 

Date: Monday, April 7, 2025

Downtown Acton  *New Date*

Date: Monday, May 12, 2025
Time: 6:30 - 8 p.m. 
Location: Acton Arena and Community Centre Hall - 415 Queen St, Acton, ON

CIP Programs 

 Façade Improvement Grant 
  • The Façade Improvement Grant supports façade(outside storefront) improvements and encourages private sector property owners in downtown commercial areas to implement aesthetic improvements to their property(ies) that otherwise may not occur.      
  • Eligible Zoning: Downtowns (DC1 & DC2); Hamlet Commercial (HC & HCC); Development (D)
  • 50% cost-matching up to $15,000 per property OR $25,000 for properties with more than one façade.
  • $3,000 top-up for designated or listed heritage properties. 
  • Learn more about Façade Improvement Grant 
 Building and Property Renovation Program 
  • Grant (forgivable loan) to encourage the significant renovation of existing commercial, heritage and other non-residential and mixed-use buildings in downtown commercial areas, including the conversion of upper floor space to residential and/or office use. To promote functional improvements, accessibility, energy efficiency and consumption reduction, and upgrades to an older building stock.
  • Eligible Zoning: Downtowns (DC1 & DC2); Hamlet Commercial (HC & HCC); Development (D)
  • 50% cost-matching up to $30,000 per property. Minimum project amount $15,000. Secured loan forgivable over 5 years at an annual forgiveness rate of 20%
  • Learn more about the Building and Property Renovation Program 
 Commercial Property Accessibility and Energy Efficiency Enhancement Program 
  • Grant program that assists existing commercial and commercial portions of mixed-use (commercial-at-grade) properties within the CIPA with the financing of accessibility improvements and energy retrofits. Includes two streams:
  • Stream A. Accessibility Improvements, 50% of eligible costs up to $5,000 
  • Stream B. Energy Retrofit, 50% of eligible costs up to $7,500
  • Eligible Zoning: Town-wide for commercial properties   
  • Learn more about the Property Accessibility and Energy Efficiency Enhancement Program 

Heritage Programs 

Heritage Property Grant Program 

  • Properties designated under Part IV or Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act are eligible for a matching grant of up to $3,000 per year through the Heritage Property Grant Program to assist with conservation to a property's identified heritage attributes, subject to eligibility and funding available through the Heritage Foundation of Halton Hills. Applications are accepted after April 1 and due June 1 of each year and will be made available online early each year.
  • Apply for the Heritage Property Grant Program 
 Heritage Property Tax Refund Program 
  • Properties designated under Part IV or Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act are eligible for an annual refund of 20% of the local, school board, and regional taxes through the Heritage Property Tax Refund Program , subject to eligibility and funding available. Applications are accepted after January 1 and due February 28 of each year and will be available online by December of each year.
