Shop Local Campaign

Encouraging Halton Hills residents to shop, eat, gift and show support to local businesses during these challenging times is important to assisting businesses with their recovery and survival.

Through the Town’s recently administered COVID-19 Business Recovery Survey, the slow return of customers was identified by the majority of respondents as the largest obstacle to recovery. The top three recovery areas that businesses reported requiring further support with were: funding, enhancing online presence/e-commerce and business planning for post-COVID conditions.

As a direct response to business needs identified by the survey, the Town  is launching a new ‘Shop Local’ campaign in partnership with the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Georgetown BIA and the Downtown Acton BIA.

The 'Shop Local' campaign includes a new logo to raise awareness about the importance of shopping locally to support business recovery in response to COVID-19.   Local businesses are encouraged to use this logo, along with printable posters and digital templates for social media posts as a resource to promote their business.

This campaign complements the nation-wide “Canada United” program that encourages Canadians to buy and dine locally, including celebrating and supporting local businesses during the Canada United Weekend from August 28 to 30, 2020. It also aligns with the Province of Ontario’s “Shop Local, Shop Safe, Shop with Confidence” digital campaign, as well as the Georgetown BIA’s current initiative, "The Comeback Project" - a video series showcasing the stories and resiliency of local businesses during these unprecedented times.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town has taken and continues to take a number of steps to support local businesses. A number of these initiatives complement the ‘Shop Local’ campaign, including:

  • Launching the VisitHaltonHills website and promoting “Staycations”
  • Implementing "Al Fresco in the Hills", the Town's temporary patio program
  • Featuring local businesses in the Economic Development E-Newsletter

Additional ‘Shop Local’ initiatives and supports will be announced soon.
